Become a volunteer


There are many opportunities to volunteer at the University of Michigan Museum of Art. For information about the volunteer opportunities listed here, please contact Kim Howard at kimhowrd@umich.edu. Thank you.

Docents: Join UMMA’s award-winning docents. These highly trained volunteers offer tours of the Museum to drop-in visitors and school groups. A three-year commitment including a year of training is required. Docent training classes are offered every two or three years and a new docent class began in November 2008. Please check this site periodically for information on the next class.

Friends Committees: Get involved in the Friends of the Museum of Art, the Museum’s membership organization. Become a member and serve on one of the many Friends committees that support the Museum's work in the community.
