SMTD@UMMA University of Michigan Jazz at Cherbourg

This program is free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first served.

In conjunction with the UMMA exhibition Moving Image: PerformanceAndrew Bishop, Associate Professor of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisations, leads a live chamber jazz ensemble with featured vocalists through the eclectic musical world of the 1964 film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg with music by Michel Legrand.  Unique for it’s fusing of opera and jazz, the music of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg features wonderful melodic inventiveness with harmonic and colorful orchestration.

The SMTD@UMMA performance series is generously supported by the Katherine Tuck Enrichment Fund and the Greg Hodes and Heidi Hertel Hodes—Partners in the Arts Endowment Fund.

Lead support for Moving Image: Performance is provided by the Herbert W. and Susan L. Johe Endowment, the University of Michigan Institute for the Humanities and Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design, and the Robert and Janet Miller Fund.
