Gifts to the Building

Even before the official launch of the campaign in 2004, supporters demonstrated an extraordinary level of commitment to UMMA. An anonymous donation of $5 million and several gifts of $1 million were followed by a $10 million contribution from The Maxine and Stuart Frankel Foundation of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, the largest gift in the Museum’s long history. These and other preliminary gifts, all eloquent votes of confidence, have built crucial momentum for the $48.9 million campaign, $41.9 million of which will be used to expand and renovate the Museum.

Every gift is important and will be recognized in the Museum’s campaign report and as part of The Michigan Difference Campaign for Michigan.

All gifts of $10,000 or greater will be recognized on the donor wall in the Museum’s new wing.

Naming opportunities are available for all major spaces, including but not limited to:

• New galleries for temporary exhibitions as well as modern and contemporary art; the renovation of Old Master galleries; and expanded galleries for Asian and African art.
• A space reserved for unique installations commissioned by the Museum.
• An Education Center featuring a state-of-the-art auditorium, hands-on classroom, and multi-purpose room, all with expanded evening/late night access.
• A Library and Study Center to accommodate scholars and an enlarged internship program for undergraduate and graduate students.
• An Object Study Classroom and a Print Room for studying original works of art under secure conditions.
• A Commons Area offering daytime, evening and late-night access to better serve UM students and other visitors.
