UMMA presents its exhibition, Traces: Reconstructing the History of a Chokwe Mask, focusing on one African artwork from the Museum’s collection and sketches its life story—from the moment it was created in what we now know as Angola, to its arrival in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Deputy Consul General Ryoji Noda, of the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit, presented a significant grant to the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) on behalf of the Japan Foundation. Mr. Noda presented a check for ¥1 million, or approximately $10,000 U.S., Tuesday morning. Mr. Takashi Omitsu, Corporate Executive Advisor at Aisin Seiki, also presented a $10,000 corporate sponsorship.

The University of Michigan Credit Union (UMCU) has invested $1.5 million to create the University of Michigan Credit Union Arts Adventures Program at the University Musical Society (UMS) and the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA).

Kathryn Huss, Deputy Director and Chief Administrative Officer, has been named Interim Director of the University of Michigan Museum of Art, effective Oct 1.

Due to a power outage affecting University of Michigan's Central Campus, UMMA's building and galleries will be closed on Friday, Sept. 9 until 1 p.m.
