The Orchid Pavilion
Gathering:
Chinese Painting from the University of Michigan Museum of Art
January
23 through March 26, 2000
West Gallery
Highlights of the Museum's
renowned collection of Chinese paintings will be on view in a fascinating
presentation of sixty major works. Spanning over 900 years, these paintings
document many of the major developments in Chinese painting, a medium
with important links to the history, culture, and politics of China.
Many of the works on view are large scrolls and, due to their fragility,
are exhibited only rarely. This landmark exhibition will be accompanied
by an extensive two-volume exhibition catalogue by University of Michigan
Senior Curator of Asian Art, Marshall Wu.
