Even Though We Might Get In Trouble For Saying This, We Can’t Hide The Truth: The Best Welcome Week Event Will Be At UMMA

So, no offense to other events — there’s a lot of great stuff planned! — but Artscapade 2021 at UMMA will be the best Welcome Week event.

Taking place on Saturday, August 28th from 6–9pm, Artscapade is a free event open to all students, focusing on introducing students to the wide array of possibilities for arts experiences and participation on campus. Here’s what you can expect:

Art-making

Art-making activity hosted by the UM Farm Stand

Button-making activity hosted by Stamps in Color

”Mini Masterpieces” activity hosted by the Office of New Student Programs

Activity table hosted by the UM Credit Union

Activity hosted by the Kelsey Museum, in the multipurpose room

Live Music

DJ performances by the Maize Collective

 

Dance

Dancing in the Apse hosted by the University Musical Society

Films

A screening of student-made films in the auditorium

 

Poetry/Writing

Haiku-writing in the Vertical Gallery

Post-it “Thought” activity, in the UMMA Café

 

Games and Prizes

Scavenger hunt

Raffle

Organized in partnership with Arts at Michigan, Artscapade is made possible by many volunteers who help make this event a success. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members are all encouraged to sign up to volunteer! Volunteering at Artscapade is a great way to meet fellow students. All volunteers will have a quick training session earlier that week to make sure you're all set.

All students, faculty and staff on the Ann Arbor (including Michigan Medicine), Dearborn and Flint campuses are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit their vaccination information by August 30. In addition, masks will be required in all indoor spaces and social distancing guidelines will be in place.
