The U-M Center for Southeast Asian Studies and UMMA invite you to introduce your family to the performance traditions of Java, Indonesia's most populous island, by spending a Sunday afternoon learning about and creating Javanese shadow puppets. Detroit-based puppeteer Carrie Morris will lead the workshop, where children ages 5-12 will create their own wayang. Attendees are encouraged to continue their immersion in the Javanese arts by attending the Javanese gamelan and dance performance at Stamps Auditorium following this workshop at 4 p.m.
