February 10 – Queer Night At UMMA

Join us for a Feel Good Friday full of love, expression, celebration, camp, and acceptance. Free and open to the public

This month’s Feel Good Friday is a collaboration with the Ann Arbor District Library, Detroit Zine Festival, LGBT Detroit, Necto, Stand With Trans, the U-M Library, and the U-M Spectrum Center.
 
Special thanks to Detroit-based musician KESSWA, for their partnership in planning performances for the night.

Immersive Drag Performances by Jezebel - Three Performances
7:20pm / 8:40pm / 9:40pm 
Jay Orellana is a multidisciplinary artist who investigates themes of psychosomatic and sexual liberation, loss, identity, reclamation and religion through healing, cathartic and sometimes comical drag performance as Jezebel. Their work as a professional makeup artist specializing in storytelling informs their performances, as well as their background in set design, wardrobe, photography, aesthetics and their fervor for cultivating and galvanizing community spaces.

Ladies Sing the Blues with DJ ETTA & THE DARKER SISTA
7:30pm
DJ ETTA, A.K.A. Crystal Mioner, is a cultural worker and vinyl enthusiast based in Detroit. Instagram: @demonic.grounds

THE DARKER SISTA, too, sings the blues, feeling her way through the seen and unseen. She is a wondering-wailing woman wandering, making house music for apocalyptic times.

Performance by Ahya Simone

Working across myriad disciplines, Detroit-based multidisciplinary artist, performer, filmmaker and harpist Ahya Simone’s many pronged practice is bound by an exploration of Black identity, aesthetic, and community building. Simone is a featured artist for Showing Up, Showing Out– a film dedicated to Motown’s legacy and its future in collaboration with Carhartt, Dazed, and NTS Radio.
