Subject Matter:
After receiving a Rome Prize (2011-12), Green began painting landscapes like this one. As with his earlier work, this painting is engaged with new forms of abstraction but differs in subject matter and materiality. The thick, painterly quality of this work, with the huge brush strokes of white and blue, are used to expand the depiction of perceptable depth. Like a kind of moonscape, this landscape is also a metaphor for the artist to express his own complex emotions in one canvas.
Physical Description:
This abstract painting has a number of wide, white-blue horizontal brush strokes through the middle portion. Yellow and green strokes are layered in the upper right of the canvas. Along the edges of the work, there are purple, yellow, and grey mountain shapes.
