Description

Subject Matter:

Lobo depicted mother and child subject matter often in his sculptures, as well as, like here, in two dimensions. This work takes the iconic image, referencing a history of madonnas, and adds the bird, likely a dove, as a possible symbol of hope or peace for the future. The child reaches to catch the bird in its young grasp, but the bird seems just out of reach.

Physical Description:

This print shows an abstracted nude woman on her back, holding a child in the air above her. The child is stretching one hand out towards a white bird at the top left. Both woman and child are looking at the bird and the atmosphere is playful.
