Oval form with tentacles

Description

Dwayne Rohachuk takes a sculptural and experimental approach to his work. His delicate and poetic pieces reflect a diminishing distinction between technical innovation and the aestheticization of form.
In this untitled work, Rohachuk plays with function, form, and artistic creativity through the fusion of a traditional vase shape with organic plant-like elements, resulting in a work that borders on the impossible. The piece appears lightly rooted to the ground. Its tendrils seem to grow from its base, shoot up and envelope the container like a vine, giving the impression of an exotic plant from a tropical rainforest. At the same time, Rohachuk’s work appears as a surreal being—a transported inhabitant from another place and time— its arms reaching around itself like tentacles.
