Subject Matter:

Although Lombard began visual arts later in life, his fascination with detail and technique was evident from the beginning. This is one of Lombard's earlier works and focuses on buildings in the German city, Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Unlike later sketches that focus on detail studies, Lombard works with multiple perspectives and levels to offer a dynamic compilation of the spirit of Rothenburg. This drawing is also a departure from his more characteristic works since it depicts a person in the scene.
