Vote 2020: Ann Arbor City Clerk Satellite Office at UMMA

September 22 — November 3, 2020
Irving Stenn, Jr. Family Gallery

REGISTER. REQUEST A BALLOT. VOTE EARLY.

In the lead up to the 2020 US Presidential Election and beyond, The University of Michigan Art Museum (UMMA) is handing over space and resources in the name of civic duty and engagement. Working closely with partners on several projects, UMMA is turning an art museum into an election hub.

Most noticeably, this takes the form of converting the Museum’s street-facing glass-walled Stenn gallery into a satellite Ann Arbor City Clerk’s office. Every weekday between Sept. 24 and election day the public can register to vote, and those voting in Ann Arbor can request an absentee ballot and vote early at UMMA. The office also makes the work of administering the election and managing voter rolls and absentee ballots a publicly visible, transparent undertaking.

For UMMA, the project is being coordinated by Briannon Cierpilowski and James Leija in collaboration with U-M Stamps School of Art & Design professors Stephanie Rowden and Hannah Smotrich, Ann Arbor city officials, and the U-M Government Relations Office.
