Anne Truitt
Description
Subject Matter:
Known for her Minimalist sculpture and painting, Truitt's work uses simple geometric forms and large fields of color. The paintings show her engagement with the Washington Color Field painters, this new post-painterly abstraction reacted against the gesture of Abstract Expressionism. As with this work, Truitt is known for painting soft layers of color which variate subtly on to various geometric structures. She was interested not in shape or color seperately but was instead interested in the way in which color and structure interacted. This work was one of a series of works in the 1970s that were titled by their date of creation.
