Description

Subject Matter:

A l'obscur is an abstract print that interprets the dark. The artist, Alfred Manessier, was a French painter and decorative artist. Prior to making this piece, he also made several stained glass windows for churches in France. The colors and structure of this print are reminiscent of a stained glass window. Religion remained a strong theme throughout his work.

Physical Description:

This abstract print has dark lines criss-crossing to form an irregular grid that frames the other colors. Four purple shapes that are near rectangles are placed throughout the grid. Some of the grid squares are filled with red or yellow. The background is a deep blue.
