Description

Subject Matter:

The drawing refers to the 1931 meeting of the English satirist and playwright George Bernard Shaw and the Indian poet, writer, musician and artist Rabindrinath Tagore. Shaw, on the right, was a vocal supporter of the Indian Independence movement, and had also met Ghandi in London in 1931.  

Physical Description:

A drawing of two figures, done in graphite, ink, brown and white wash, with brown dominating the image's tonality. The style of the drawing resembles a cartoon or caricature of the subjects. The man on the right, is taller and has a paler complexion than the man on the left.
