Accordion-shaped vessel

Description

Michael Bauermeister, who studied sculpture as a university student, explains that he chose the wood vessel to explore his artistic ideas “because I find it…a comfortable place for both the viewer and myself to start. From here I can explore the issues of texture, scale and color, all the natural beauty of wood.”
Bauermeister’s appropriately named Accordion Vessel explores these issues by juxtaposing contrasting textures. Its bark-like pattern is complimented by a finished, concave upper portion which has been sanded and polished. Its V-shaped composition, similar to Terry Evan’s Tapered Urn #7, somewhat resembles a compressed accordion.
