Description

Subject Matter:

The kabuki actor Onoe Matsusuke (1744-1815) was a famous kabuki actor who played both men and women in plays. Here he is depicted during one of his plays. 
Utagawa Tokoyuni depicted Onoe Matsusuke multiple times in his work as Tokoyuni was famous for his depictions of kabuki actors. 

Physical Description:

This print depicts a man in a Kabuki outfit in front of a background of straw houses and leaves. There are three inscriptions, one on the upper left, one on the right lower edge, and one in the right lower corner following a circular seal.
