Description

Subject Matter:

The design for this poster is almost identical to an illustration Rand created for the 1956 children’s book I Know a Lot of Things. Rand carries the playful sensibility of the original through to the 1994 iteration. The absence of the human form between the umbrella overhead and the rainboots below draws attention to the text. Rand relies on humor as a way to make the Club appealing. The image itself is not relevant to the conference, but because of its clever use of text and imagery, it is an effective design.

Physical Description:

A poster advertising the Paul Rand Art Directors Club of Cincinnati Art Museum. The text is arranged to descend, one word per line. The text is topped with a multicolored shape resembling an umbrella. At the bottom is a pair of red shoes, each shoe pointed away from the other.
