Description

The original chalk drawing by François Boucher, an allegory dedicated to the immortality of love, was engraved by Demarteau and presented on the occasion of the Cuisy’s anniversary. Boucher’s drawing shows two conjoined hearts on the Altar of Love crowned with a laurel wreath. Putti, having disarmed Time (who sits at the lower right with his scythe at his side) hold aloft the hourglass that refers to mortality. A charming and playful reference to the power of love, this engraving captures the Boucher red chalk drawing with great fidelity.
