Description

Subject Matter:

The series "Anatomy of Feelings" is comprised of etchings, most of them featuring nude figures with contorted or highly abstracted bodies. This work is number forty-eight, of the fifty prints in the series. Emphasis is frequently placed on the sexual organs. The artist, Vladimir Yankilevsky was involved with the Soviet Nonconformist Art movement and often worked under a pseudonym to avoid punishment. Through several different series of prints, including "Anatomy of Feelings," Yankilevsky explores the relationship of people and their experiences in social spaces.

Physical Description:

This vertically-oriented etching depicts the body of a nude woman but with most of the torso missing. The body becomes a kind of characterized face. In the background, there is a receding landscape with a grid. The print is titled, numbered, signed and dated in pencil at the bottom of the page.
