Subject Matter:
Number one of fifty, the series "Anatomy of Feelings" is comprised of etchings, most of them featuring nude figures with contorted or highly abstracted bodies. Emphasis is frequently placed on the sexual organs. The artist, Vladimir Yankilevsky was involved with the Soviet Nonconformist Art movement and often worked under a pseudonym to avoid punishment. Through several different series of prints, including "Anatomy of Feelings," Yankilevsky explores the relationship of people and their experiences in social spaces.
Physical Description:
This etching depicts a nude woman, whose legs are open and arms distorted. Where her face should be, a wave of lines pour out. In the background, there is a barren landscape and a sun-like orb above. The print is titled, numbered, signed and dated in pencil and the bottom of the page.
