Subject Matter:
The series "Anatomy of Feelings" is comprised of etchings, most of them featuring nude figures with contorted or highly abstracted bodies. This work is number eleven of the fifty prints in the series. Emphasis is frequently placed on the sexual organs. The artist, Vladimir Yankilevsky was involved with the Soviet Nonconformist Art movement and often worked under a pseudonym to avoid punishment. Through several different series of prints, including "Anatomy of Feelings," Yankilevsky explores the relationship of people and their experiences in social spaces.
Physical Description:
This etching depicts two nude hermaphroditic figures in a barren landscape. On the right in the foreground, the figure seems to be jumping into the air, and, on the left in the background, the figure is running towards the right. There is also a partial female public area, cut off at the top of the legs and base of the stomach, laying on the ground on the left. The print is titled, numbered, signed and dated in pencil at the bottom of the print.
