Subject Matter:
Number five of fifty, the series "Anatomy of Feelings" is comprised of etchings, most of them featuring nude figures with contorted or highly abstracted bodies. Emphasis is frequently placed on the sexual organs. The artist, Vladimir Yankilevsky was involved with the Soviet Nonconformist Art movement and often worked under a pseudonym to avoid punishment. Through several different series of prints, including "Anatomy of Feelings," Yankilevsky explores the relationship of people and their experiences in social spaces.
Physical Description:
This print depicts two nude women in contorted poses, one at the front left and the other in the background on the right. There is also a large thinly-lined "X," to the right of the foreground figure. Above, there is a sun-like orb floating above the horizon line. The print is titled, numbered, signed and dated at the bottom of the page.
