Subject Matter:
The series "Anatomy of Feelings" is comprised of etchings, most of them featuring nude figures with contorted or highly abstracted bodies. This work is number forty-five, of the fifty prints in the series. Emphasis is frequently placed on the sexual organs. The artist, Vladimir Yankilevsky was involved with the Soviet Nonconformist Art movement and often worked under a pseudonym to avoid punishment. Through several different series of prints, including "Anatomy of Feelings," Yankilevsky explores the relationship of people and their experiences in social spaces.
Physical Description:
This etching depicts a leaping figure, shown from behind. Depicted nude, the bones of the back are clearly visible through the skin, yet the legs and buttock of the figure are full and muscular. There is minimal background in this image save for a faint horizon. The print is titled, numbered, signed and dated in pencil at the bottom of the page.
