Subject Matter:
The series "Anatomy of Feelings" is comprised of etchings, most of them featuring nude figures with contorted or highly abstracted bodies. This work is number five, of the fifty prints in the series. Emphasis is frequently placed on the sexual organs. The artist, Vladimir Yankilevsky was involved with the Soviet Nonconformist Art movement and often worked under a pseudonym to avoid punishment. Through several different series of prints, including "Anatomy of Feelings," Yankilevsky explores the relationship of people and their experiences in social spaces.
Physical Description:
This etching has a series of notes and sketches throughout the print with two more detailed portions. At the top right, there is a rondel with a nude figure, half-woman—half-machine. At the bottom left, there is a series of vignettes with a sillouette of a woman, a landscape, and a robot. The print is titled, signed, numbered and dated in pencil at the bottom of the page.
