Description

Subject Matter:

Ynez Johnston worked with a variety of media to create complex and detailed two and three dimensional pieces. She was inspired by the cultures she encountered on her travels in Mexico and Europe. Ancient Temple evokes the structures and symbolism of an ancient society such as that of the Mayans, Incans, or Aztecs. Johnston was born in Berkeley, California and resided in the United States for the majority of her life with the exception of her extensive travels in Mexico, Europe, and India.

Physical Description:

This is an abstract painting with much detail, of irregular shapes delineated by thin white lines. Inside the shapes of varying sizes there are other lines, details, and symbols in a multitude of different colors.
