Subject Matter:
The Aspen International Design Conference brought together leaders in business and design to discuss the ways they could mutually benefit each other. The theme of the 1966 conference was “Sources and Resources of 20th Century Design.” The theme is complemented by the image of an egg, because eggs are symbolic of the beginning of life, or the source for life. Rand’s addition of paint splatters perhaps references Pollack and Abstract Expressionism. The dynamism of the splatters is juxtaposed with the latent potential of the egg, reflecting different design approaches and products.
