Description

Subject Matter:

This photograph depicts a scene at a crowded football stadium during a game. Created on the sideline during a play, the field before the camera is full of running players, sprinting and charging at one another. Multiple players are pictured mid-leap, including one who is jumping towards the player holding the ball. In front of the photographer stands a referee with knees bent, intently watching the action unfold before him. The angle at which the photo was created is tilted, causing the players to appear as if they’re running downhill. On the far side of the field, the massive bleachers of the crowded stadium wrap across the frame. The perspective of the tilted angle and wide angle lens creates a dynamic sense of instability and suspended movement, further adding to the tense anticipation of the event.
