Francis Bedford was an acclaimed British landscape photographer with a background in illustration. His photographs seek to balance the natural and man-made worlds. This images represents the small river, Badgworthy Water, which flows through Malmsmead on Exmoor, between Devon and Somerset, England. The scene depicts the Doone Valley which is the setting for the novel Lorna Doone. In this idyllic view, a figure walks across a small bridge over the river.
