Description

Subject Matter:

In this painting, the former UM Professor Emeritus depicted a daytime winter scene in a rural area. He spent the majority of his life in Michigan so this is likely a scene of a winter day in the state. Slusser was the first director of the University of Michigan Museum of Art and also worked as an art critic for several publications. Exhibiting nationally, his often colorful paintings—that he referred to as "descriptive landscape paintings—won several awards.

Physical Description:

At the center of the painting, there is a red barn surrounded by snow covered ground. There are large trees on both sides of the barn, and a yellow house in the background.
