Description

Subject Matter:

Francis Bedford was an acclaimed British landscape photographer with a background in illustration. His photographs seek to balance the natural and man-made worlds. This image depicts the Welsh village Betws-y-Coed which translates to, "prayer house in the wood." The three tributaries of the river Conwy, the Llugwy, the Machno, and the Lledr, meet in this village. This photograph focuses on the Roman Bridge over the Machno River. A lush, overgrown landscape covers the arched bridge, which stretches over the moving river underneath.

In this photograph, an arched bridge is depicted surrounded by trees with a rock-lined river below.
