Description

Subject Matter:

This “cong”-shaped vase is decorated with three columns of lotus flower scrolls on each side. A "cong" made of jade is a type of ritual vessel found in Neolithic Period China. Ceramics and porcelain wares inspired by such a shape appeared as early as the Song dynasty and rivived in the Qing dynasty.

Physical Description:

This vase has a round mouth, a rectangular body and a round bottom whose diameter is the same as the mouth. The four edges are moded with protruding shapes.
