Description

Before dedicating himself to woodturning, Hans Weissflog studied mechanical engineering and design. Today he is an internationally recognized woodturner, who is known for defying the physical and technical boundaries of woodworking.

Weissflog’s engineering and design background strongly influenced his approach to woodturning. Symmetry is paramount in his pieces, which often require exceptional technical precision. Star Bowl’s geometric, finely layered bands are fashioned with an exactitude that borders on the mechanical, a process that Weissflog claims “is easier to turn than to explain.” As a designer, Weissflog is always seeking out new possibilities and challenges and is intrigued by the seemingly unlimited diversity of shapes that can be achieved on the lathe.
