Description

Subject Matter:

Cartoons and the bubbling art scene of New York's East Village in the 1980s were influences on Greenblat's work, as seen in this whimsical illustration. The bright tempura-like colors and bold lines bring to mind the drawings one might have done and hung on the fridge as a child. The playful interaction of text and image reminds the viewer of breakfast at the family kitchen table, creating a comical twist on a traditional still-life.

Physical Description:

This painting has a still life scene with bowl of fruit on a table. There is a pale blue background and silver border, outlined and decorated in black. A figure of a man comes from the right side; he looks towards the bowl. Along the top, above the bowl of fruit, text reads "Bowl o' Fruit." The print is initialed by the artist in black (l.r.) "RG".
