Description

Subject Matter:

This box is an example from the Hoi An Wreck, 22 miles off the coast of central Vietnam in the South China Sea. It was discovered in the 1990s. The ship carried Vietnamese ceramic wares dated to the 15th century, that were manufactured in the kilns of the Red River Delta. This box is decorated with elegant portrayls of distant mountains, rocks, and foliage.

Physical Description:

A box with a lid, possibly for carrying women's cosmetic powders. The design on the lid is a mountain landscape.
