Description

Subject Matter:

This photograph depicts a neighborhood in Budapest called Budafok, which was particularly known for its wine production. Kertész focuses on the relationship between the village and its agriculture, by depicting rows of uniformly-shaped houses interrupted by strips of tilled land that follow the oblique angle of the scene and lead the viewer's eye towards the upper left corner of the image. This image was included in a portfolio of 15 photographs entitled "A Hungarian Memory," which was published by Hyperion Press in 1980.

Physical Description:

Photograph of a town showing houses and an agricultural landscape, as well as some inhabitants.
