Subject Matter:
This photograph shows a small river cascade in a heavily wooded forest. Dropping off a dark, craggy ledge and splashing onto the rocks below, the waterfalls are blurred by the photograph’s long exposure, and appear as brightly gleaming shapes. Occupying the center of the image, the cascades are surrounded by richly detailed foliage and plant life. This lush clarity is due to the sharp focus of the camera’s lens, which renders the plethora of natural textures in crisp detail. Facing the viewer, the far bank is populated with a thick mass of lodgepole pines, their coniferous branches forming a dark wall. In the lower right corner, leafy plants and shrubs fill the foreground. The lightly-amber warmth of the print lends a sense of luminosity to the scene, and accentuates the glimmering sheen of the cascading waters.
