Champ du Sang, ou vallée de Hínnom – The field of blood, or valley of Hinnom
Felix Bonfils
Description
Subject Matter:
A jagged stone ridge bisects this scene of the Valley of Hinnom in the countryside near Jerusalem. Striking geologic formations, numerous trees, and crisscrossing stone walls and architectural ruins lend topographical variety to the terrain. The high horizon line, formed by the summits of two hills on either side, allows the viewer to explore the richly textured topographical fabric on display. This image is one of hundreds of photographs made throughout Bonfils's career which purport to document various landscapes, cityscapes, and people of the eastern Mediterranean.
Physical Description:
A valley dips between the summits of two hills and meanders into the distance.
