Description

During the Qing Dynasty, when China was under Manchu rule, the color yellow was reserved for the exclusive use of the imperial family; it was found in royal architecture, decorative arts, and textiles. This bright yellow bowl, made during the reign of the Guangxu Emperor (1875–1908) depicts two dragons striding among flames and clouds in pursuit of “flaming pearls”—emblems of the sun and moon.
