Child Mother
David Alfaro Siqueiros
Description
Subject Matter:
A young girl walks through a dark and mysterious place with a child on her back. Her dress is torn and too large as she is holding it up while she walks. An infant is strapped to her back and they share the same worried expression as they both look behind them. Siqueiros was an active member of the Communist party and he used his art to express political beliefs. He did not believe in the same indifenista themes that Diego Rivera did because he saw them as exploitative of the Mexican people, but he used indigenous people in his art to show their sadness and struggle in the wake of the Mexican Revolution.
