The lines in the background of this piece are a reflection of the printmaking technique. Saito Kiyoshi calls upon the process in the finished product, not only providing texture but also reminding the viewer of the work that goes into printmaking.
Physical Description:
This print depicts a bust of a statue, a Haniwa statue in particular. The background is a rustic red with lines resembling the grain of a tree and the figure is depicted in a geometric grayscale. There is a signature on the bottom left.
