Description

Subject Matter:

Francis Bedford was an acclaimed British landscape photographer with a background in illustration. His photographs seek to balance the natural and man-made worlds. This photograph depicts the historic fishing village of Clovelly which is nestled in a harbor in Devonshire, England. Bedford made the photograph from the Hobby, providing the perspective of looking through trees, down at the village which seems small enveloped by wilderness.

This photograph depicts a village situated on a harbor. The village is seen from the perspective of a viewer standing at the top of one of the harbor's cliffs.
