Commander Robert H. Wyman
E. & H. T. Anthony; Mathew B. Brady
Description
Subject Matter:
In this photograph, United States Navy Commander Richard Wyman stands rigidly with one arm behind his back and the other tucked into the breast of his frock coat. His glassy eyes gaze indirectly out of the picture plane. A table with a book, a chair, and a curtain surround the naval officer in the background and signal a somewhat generic, bourgeois interior space. This photograph was originally produced by the studio of Mathew Brady, who made a large number of such cartes-de-visite of Union Army and Navy officers during the American Civil War (1861-65).
