Description

Subject Matter:

A photograph from a portfolio of images in which Helmut Newton depicts celebrities, designers and models in highly contrived poses and often placed in decadent scenes. In this photograph, the artist David Hockney stands in front of a swimming pool at the Piscine Royale in Paris. He is shirtless with one hand casually resting in his pants pocket. The viewer looks up at Hockney who returns the gaze. Behind him, young men lounge and play water sports in the pool.
