Deep bowl with medallion design
Iranian
Description
Subject Matter:
This Safavid period ceramic bowl contains unique floral "rug" designs that decorate the exterior as well as on the interor base. The patterns are painted in cobalt blue on ivory ground, a combination which is generally attributed to the penchant for Chinese style pottery and designs during the Safavid period. Chinese-inspired blue and white ceramicware, tiles and even metalwork were produced heavily during the Safavid period in Iran.
