Description

Subject Matter:

This print depicts a street market in Mexico. The people are portrayed in profile with rounded bodies charactersitic of Rivera's work that often celebrated pre-columbian indigenous culture in Mexico. The clothing and type of market, as well as the style of the figures, which resemble pre-conquest scupture, can all be considered indigenous.

Physical Description:

This print is a contour drawing of several rows of figures: in the foreground are three squating figures facing away from the viewer; in the background are several squatting figures facing the viewer, and in between are standing figures. The squatting figures sit before the goods they are selling and the standing figures are purchasing from them.
