Description

Subject Matter:

This blue and white container is characterized by its darker shades of blue spots in the glaze. This kind of glaze is called the Samarra Blue or "sumali qing". This was made from imported ore rich in iron from Persia. It was widely used on blue-and-white porcelain from the Yuan to early Ming periods.
