Dominick Labino

Subject Matter:
Dominick Labino was a pioneer in bringing glass-making into the field of fine arts. He began his career by inventing many different glass materials, techniques, tools and machines, many of which were used for scientific purposes, such as insulating NASA spacecrafts. He was eventually invited to participate in some of the first studio glass workshops held at the Toledo Museum of Art, where he developed revolutionary glass-blowing processes. One of these, known as internal veiling has been used in this sculpture, and is what allows for layering sections of blown glass within each other.
Physical Description:
This glass sculpture is a large oval encasing a smaller pale peach oval which encases another smaller, darker peach oval like bubbles within bubbles.
