Description

Subject Matter:

This drawing is likely a study for a portrait of Mrs. Maud Dale, wife of American businessman and art collector Christopher Dale, who commissioned Léger to make the portrait.

Physical Description:

A small drawing of a woman in upper left portion of a sheet of paper.  The woman wears a green dress with a black and white scarf draped over her left shoulder.  Behind her is a chair to the right and orange and blue curtains. Through the curtains, an urban scene is visible. The drawing is outlined in black.
